Specific Findings and Suggested Improvements (Basic Site Critique)

1.)...Privacy Policy

If you do any kind of business on the web, have a mailing list, or simply have a site that is popular or you're working to make popular, you should have a privacy statement! (On the web, a key priority is to build credibility.)

You can set up an elaborate privacy policy for your Web site, similar to some of these:

Yahoo!'s Privacy Statement:
http://www.yahoo.com/docs/info/privacy.html

CNET Networks:
http://www.cnet.com/aboutcnet/0-7251795-7-7283133.html

Microsoft.com Statement of Privacy:
http://www.microsoft.com/info/privacy.htm

To take it a step further, you could even have your privacy policy "endorsed" by a third party such as the following:

http://www.TRUSTe.org/

http://www.CPAWebTrust.org/

http://www.BBBOnLine.org/

Locate it at the bottom of each page!

2.)...Use different techniques to INTERACT with your site visitors!
Interactive features are a great way to get people to come back to your home page.

For example, create a free web poll for your website! This is one of the best ways to add interactivity to your website. You decide what questions and answers you want to put to a vote. Your visitors vote from your Web Site. Some of the largest sites on the web use poll systems to generate traffic. (CNN.com > QUICKVOTE) Find out what your visitors think!

Give a variety of ways visitors can contact you: e-mail, phone, fax, mail, etc. Listen and learn from your visitors!

-- Use "forms" for feedback!

Including a FeedBack form is a good way to add some interactivity and makes it easy for people to ask questions without having to pick up the phone.

See the "Home Page Feedback Survey" at:

or at:

3.)...REFERRALS! One of the simplest ways to spread the word about your site is to let your visitors do it for you. Acquire a CGI program or sign up with a company that enables your visitors to send out referral messages.

or: http://www.recommendit.com/

4.)...Find and learn from your competitors!

Finally, put yourself in the shoes of your target audience, and ask yourself if your site gives you a reason to browse further.

Good Luck with your site!
