The Stone Castle (12-13C)
GRADARA (Italy) - the Rocca built on a square plan with corner towers, is a well preserved example of military architecture in the 13 and 14C. Giovanni Sforza decorated the castle interior in 1493 for his young bride, Lucrezia Borgia, daughter of Pope Alexander VI. Postmark: GRADARA, 23.7.1974, First Day Cancellation, regular. PALAZZO VECCHIO (Florence, Italy) - built between 1299 and 1314 probably to plans by Arnolfo di Cambio, it is in a Gothic style, with a lofty bell-tower, 94m high, battlements, parapet walk and crenellations. Postmark: FIRENZE, 24.7.1947. Postage stamp issued in 31.10.1946. Card published by Gino Giusti - Firenze.
